We invite suitable applicants to apply for the position of “Simulation and Medical Education Anaesthetic Provisional Fellow” at Western Health.
The Simulation Centre at Western Health is a purpose built facility located at Sunshine Hospital. The Centre has high and low-fidelity equipment for training and simulation of a broad range of clinical scenarios in both adult and paediatric medicine.
Medical specialists have wider roles and functions than just being medical experts in their clinical area. They also need to function as medical educators and trainers. This position will provide:
- Exposure of the trainee to the use of simulation as an educational tool as it applies to all medical disciplines and grades with particular emphasis on anaesthesia based simulation for basic and advanced trainees.
- Exposure to and the ability to develop skills related to setting up, running and debriefing high fidelity simulation education sessions.
- Exposure to the use of simulation as a quality assurance tool as it relates to patient risk reduction and morbidity case review.
- The chance to undertake research related to simulation education with an emphasis on attempting to measure outcomes related to simulation education in clinical practice.
The position is split between a provisional fellowship role in clinical anaesthesia and simulation education. The successful applicant will also experience useful mentoring for making the transition from trainee to specialist regarding supervising junior trainees, running the floor and taking on departmental responsibilities. Sub-specialty experience is available in thoracics, paediatrics, obstetrics, vascular, ENT, liver resection and perioperative medicine.
